Well, here we are partway through the month of June. It’s been an interesting month. I was privileged to sing one of my songs earlier this month accompanied by Allie Bennett, a two-time ECMA winner. It’s always good to have another musician join in – makes the “unplugged” piano sound so much fuller.

I’ve also been having a busy few months with Nova Voce, Nova Scotia’s provincial men’s choir, where I’m a baritone. Nova Voce was featured at the opening ceremonies of the World Curling Championships in Halifax, and I had the opportunity to perform “Barrett’s Privateers” written by Stan Rogers as part of that event. My daughter has now taken to calling me “Stand-in Rogers” because I’m also doing solos in “Mary Ellen Carter” and “Northwest Passage” in our performances here at home and on our US tour in July.

Just to make sure all of our weekends were full, Judy and I hosted Ben and Krista Taylor, who are missionaries in Poland, for four days while they were here in Nova Scotia. Ben had never been here, and Krista had only been here once when she was a teenager, so we had a great time touring them around the province and letting them see how beautiful this part of the world is. Krista is a photographer, so she and Judy had a great time taking pictures and Ben and I had an equally great time commiserating about what it’s like to be married to a photographer!
