Phil has lived most of his life in the Maritimes. When he isn’t writing or performing, he works in Nova Scotia’s healthcare system. A former street paramedic and communications officer, he now works as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the province’s largest health district.
Phil is the pianist for Forest Hills Fellowship Baptist Church, sings in Nova Voce, Nova Scotia’s provincial men’s choir, and is the former director and accompanist of the Dartmouth Men’s Choir.
The son of a Baptist pastor, grandson of a church organist on one side of his family and a Salvation Army trumpet player on the other, Phil was brought up surrounded by the gospel music he loves. His two brothers were also Baptist pastors. Phil likes to say, “They’re paid to be good and I’m good for nothing…”
Phil has been playing the piano by ear since he was twelve and began playing and singing in churches not long after that. He began writing songs about thirty years ago and released his first album in 2005.
One listener wrote to say, “The music and lyrics are beautiful and a wonderful Christian Witness. I was very moved as I listened to them…” Another concert goer said she was “moved to tears as (she) listened to the words that Phil sang, straight from his heart to (mine).”
