I couldn’t let the weekend’s horrific mass shooting in Orlando pass without comment.  I was sickened and appalled by the news on Sunday morning.  I just don’t get it.  While I understand that not everyone shares the same beliefs and values around this world, I think we’re at a point in time when we, as humans, have developed enough to agree that violence is not an acceptable method of communicating your beliefs or trying to encourage others to accept and support your views.

We need to concentrate more on what we have in common than what makes us different.

As someone that holds to Christian beliefs and values, I say we, those of us that follow the teachings of the Bible, need to stop holding non-Christians accountable to behave to Christian standards.  Because, folks, if someone isn’t a Christian, we can’t hold them to that standard.

We’re accountable to share our beliefs with folks that aren’t Christians.  We’re accountable to be respectful and loving to our neighbours.  We’re accountable to follow the example of Jesus.  We’re accountable for what we do in this life.

Hatred is not the answer.  Shooting people who are different from you because they love, live, or look different than you is not the answer.
