Have you ever wondered about if any of the good things you do make a difference in the long run? Do you ever get tired of being nice? Do you ever wonder why are we kind or why do we do good things? The reason is pretty simple: it’s the right thing to do.

The Bible has a verse that says, “whatsoever a man sows, that also he shall reap.” If you’re not someone into Bible verses, you might recognize an idiom you hear all the time that says almost the same thing: “what goes around comes around.” Our actions, good or bad, have consequences.

So, be an example; a positive example. Lead by example. Hold the door for someone. Let another car out into traffic. Spend some time with an elderly acquaintance and just listen while they talk. It will do you good! It will even make you feel good (tho’ this shouldn’t be your motivation). The best thing is that being kind and doing good things will rub off on other people – maybe the person you held a door for will hold a door for someone else. Maybe that car that you let out in heavy traffic will do the same for another driver. Why, if enough of us are kind in traffic, driving in Montreal might change and become like driving in the Maritimes.

Doing good doesn’t need to be complicated. Being kind doesn’t need to be planned. It just needs to be done. So today, or whenever you read this, why not just be nice to folks?  Because changing you might change the world.
