I hope before you read the story of this song you’ll listen to and read the story of “It’s in His Plan.” It will set you up to better understand this story. A few days after I finished writing and transcribing the words and music for “It’s in His Plan” I sat down to play it again. I was still depressed. Nothing really positive had changed over those few days. So I plunked down onto my piano stool and ran my hands up the keys, playing an arpeggio of the first chord in the song. My fingers didn’t flow smoothly over the keys and I hit a few wrong notes. Now, I liked the sound of those wrong notes so I just started fiddling around with the notes and chords. All of a sudden words just started popping into my head.

The music just flowed out. I was even able to remember the words long enough to write them down, which usually doesn’t happen with me – if I don’t write them down the minute I think of them, they disappear! Anyway, I sat and sang and played and then got up and wrote the words down, then went back to the piano and wrote the chord patterns down above them. I changed a couple of words here and there, then went back to the piano. The words and music worked! I really think this song was given to me as an answer to all the questions I wrote about in “It’s in His Plan.” The new song, “Beside Me” is a song about faithfulness.
